About us
Effit started with a friendship, a group chat, and a $20 forfeit.
Tom, our co-founder, had spent years yo-yoing. One minute on a health kick, the next back to square one. Then COVID hit, things spiralled, and he found himself at 115kg, barely sleeping, and honest enough with himself to know he'd hit rock bottom.
So he roped in two mates. The rules were simple: hit the gym Monday to Friday, send a sweaty selfie as proof, or pay $20 to the other two. For eight months, through lockdowns, through everything — Tom didn't miss a single session. He dropped 35kg, completed a full Ironman, and the following year did 10 endurance events in 10 months for two mental health charities.
But none of that is really why effit exists.
Tom lost his best friend. And in the years that followed, he saw what movement could do for people when they had others around them, and what happened when they didn't. Fundraisers training alone. Run clubs that faded after six weeks. The group chat that went quiet and nobody noticed.
He'd lived both sides. And he knew which one mattered.
effit is built for the version where nobody does it alone. Where communities have somewhere to live between sessions, between events, between the moment someone signs up and the moment they show up. Where the people who need connection the most can actually find it.
That's the future we're building. And we're just getting started.
